Dog Fouling

Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council (TMBC) has announced that they have been selected as one of 10 partners for the national Keep Britain Tidy (KBT) dog fouling campaign, which will be launched nationally on 20 September. There were almost 100 applications for the partnership process but TMBC's was considered one of the most detailed and innovative.

As such TMBC will receive billboard, phone box, bus shelter and ad-van campaign advertising (all funded by KBT) over a four-week period from w/c 20 September. As part of the partnership agreement TMBC have been asked to carry out monitoring of six fouling hot spot areas. This involves clearing the identified areas of all deposits, and counting deposits a week later. This process will be carried out again at the end of the four-week campaign to see what improvements have been made.

The six areas that have selected for monitoring for the campaign are those that have had historically the highest levels of fouling. TMBC's programme of Bag & Flag events has had significant successes in many of our previous hot spot areas, but they hope that the concentrated enforcement and promotional activities over the campaign period (and afterwards) will assist in making a mark on those areas which have previously shown lower levels of long-term improvement. Although promotional material and activities will cover the whole borough, including the improved hot spot areas such as East Malling, Burham, East Peckham, etc, the specific locations selected for monitoring for this campaign are:

  • Ferryfield Recreation Ground, Aylesford
  • Tonbridge Farm Sportsground, Tonbridge
  • Woodlands Walk, Tonbridge
  • Taddington Valley, Walderslade
  • Nevill Park, Snodland
  • Swanmead Sportsground, Tonbridge

As well as increasing enforcement patrols (both early morning and late evening), TMBC will be working with local schools, community groups, parish and town councils to raise awareness of the campaign. TMBC already have several schools - from pre-school to secondary - committed to helping out during the campaign. Posters (supplied by KBT) will be sent to all interested parties. Stickers have also been provided to be placed on dog waste bins and litter bins. Please note that this campaign is being run in addition to the day-to-day Cleaner Borough activities and our litter & dog fouling enforcement patrols and community clean up activities will carry on as normal during this time.
